The Utah Utes and Alabama Crimson Tide reaffirmed their positions inside the top five in the College Football Playoff rankings on Saturday afternoon.

Utah pulled out a rivalry win at home over the BYU Cougars to remain undefeated, and at minimum, remain inside the top three in the rankings.

Alabama went on the road and picked up a huge road win over the LSU Tigers to justify their No. 5 spot in the CFB Playoff rankings.

On the other end of the rankings, the Ohio State Buckeyes' loss to the Oregon Ducks will take them out of contention after starting the weekend at No. 12.

No. 3 Utah Remains Undefeated With Win Over No. 9 BYU

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 07 BYU vs Utah

Utah overcame the last massive hurdle on its schedule with a rivalry win over BYU on Saturday afternoon.

The Utes took over in the second half with a pair of touchdowns and three interceptions off BYU's Bear Bachmeier.

Utah now sits at 9-0 with a clear path to a first-round bye in the CFB Playoff.

A potentially tricky road trip to Arizona awaits next week, but the Wildcats have already lost to BYU and Texas Tech in Big 12 play.

Utah is two games up on everyone other than Texas Tech in the Big 12 standings, so it is almost assured of a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

A Big 12 Championship Game win would allow the Utes to have an even stronger resume to compare against whichever teams end up fighting for the top four seeds in December.

As for BYU, its playoff chances are in peril. It win drop a few spots from No. 9 in Tuesday's rankings and it doesn't have any big games left.

The best-case scenario for the Cougars would be to win out and find its way into the Big 12 Championship Game for another shot at Utah.

Alabama justified its No. 5 spot in the CFB Playoff rankings with a commanding 31-13 win in Baton Rouge.

There were concerns about Alabama's spot in Tuesday's rankings because of their two losses.

However, that seems to have gone out the window, at least for now, with the road win at LSU.

Alabama doesn't have the best resume among the CFB Playoff contenders because it lost to the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers, but now it has a pair of top-20 wins.

Alabama's goal for the rest of November is to not lose and try to earn a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

A 10-3 Alabama could get into the 12-team playoff field if the third loss occurs in the SEC Championship Game.

LSU's playoff hopes were already on thin ice going into Week 10. The home loss to Alabama likely ends its postseason quest.

No. 12 Ohio State Loses At Home to No. 23 Oregon

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 07 Oregon vs Ohio State

Ohio State's playoff hopes were washed away at home on Saturday by the Oregon Ducks.

The Buckeyes gave up 38 unanswered points to Dylan Raiola and Co. in their third loss of the season.

Ohio State has now suffered back-to-back losses and it looks it may struggle just to win multiple additional games.

On the other hand, the Ducks are still barely alive at 6-3 because they will receive a boost in the rankings on Tuesday.

Neither team will be close to the top 12 on Tuesday, but at least for Oregon, there is hope.
