BYU vs. Utah Final Box Score Player Stats, Highlights and CFP Poll Prediction
No. 3 Utah hosted No. 9 BYU for a high-stakes iteration of the Holy War on Saturday, and for the first time in the history of the rivalry, both teams entered the game ranked inside the top 10.
Although the Cougars clawed back from an early deficit, the Utes defense stifled BYU's offense in the second half to secure a 28-20 victory.
Utah quarterback Devon Dampier was involved in all four of the Utes' touchdowns, and he became the first player in NCAA history to have a game with at least 150 passing yards, 25 receiving yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.
The undefeated Utes improved to 9-0 and seem destined for a bye in the College Football Playoff. BYU picked up its second conference loss and no longer controls its own destiny on the path to the Big 12 Championship. To make it to Arlington, the Cougars would need to win out and would need Texas Tech and Houston to lose at least one game each.

BYU's offense began to wake up and notched a pair of field goals after pulling out a few clever trick plays.
Cougars quarterback Bear Bachmeier connected with wide receiver Legend Glasker for a 75-yard touchdown to cut Utah's lead down to 14-13.
Despite facing an early 14-point deficit, the Cougars took the lead before halftime with a four-yard rushing touchdown by running back LJ Martin.
The end of the first half was filled with drama. BYU defensive end Nusi Taumoepeau recovered a fumble to give the Cougars possession in the final two minutes, but Utes cornerback James Chenault intercepted Bachmeier in the red zone to give his team possession. The sequence didn't end in points for either team.
BYU went into halftime after scoring 20 points, but the third quarter turned ugly for the Cougars. Bachmeier threw an interception on the opening drive and failed to pick up a single first down throughout the entire quarter. Utah wasn't able to turn the interception into points as kicker Dillon Curtis missed a 29-yard attempt, but the Utes defense held BYU to a three-and-out.
Dampier connected with Pegan again on the subsequent drive — this time for a 14-yard touchdown reception — to help the Utes regain the lead.
The Utes extended their lead to eight points as Dampier found the end zone on a three-yard keeper. The score marked Dampier's fourth touchdown of the day — two through the air and two on the ground.
Bachmeier threw a crushing interception on third-and-goal from Utah's 2-yard line. Utah took possession with under five minutes remaining and alternated carries between Dampier and running back Wayshawn Parker to drain the clock.
BYU began its final possession on their own 48-yard line with 54 seconds left after the Utes managed to flip the field by just 18 yards on their punt.
Bachmeier managed to pick up a couple of first downs, but ultimately, the second half ended much like the first: A lot of drama, but no points. Bachmeier threw his fourth interception on a desperate cross-body heave into the end zone. Utah safety Nate Richie secured the interception to clinch the Utes' 28-20 victory.
