Ohio State head coach Ryan Day provided an update on his radio show Thursday regarding quarterback Julian Sayin, who suffered an undisclosed injury to his right (throwing) arm on Oct. 17 in a 19-15 win at Indiana.

"I'll kind of let him handle that, his family," Day said regarding Sayin's medical status, per Jonathan Wagner of On3. "All things considered, the outcome with the different options that were (available) kind of going into the situation thinking it could be, I think this has been a decent outcome for us and for him.

"We'll kind of let him go through that, but this thing looks to be healing. It's not gonna be next week or next month. It's gonna take some time, but I think certainly for the long term, we feel like we're on a good track here."

Sayin suffered the injury after Indiana defensive lineman Mario Landino sacked him and forced a fumble in the fourth quarter of Ohio State's victory. He left the game and later went back to the sideline with his arm in a sling.

Day's remarks indicate that Sayin won't return in the regular season, which features four more games from Nov. 7-28 vs. Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska and then arch-rival Michigan.

It's a tough blow for the Buckeyes, as Sayin completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 2,007 yards (10.5 yards per attempt) and 19 touchdowns (four interceptions) in six games this season.

Looking ahead, the first round of the College Football Playoff is scheduled for Dec. 18-19. No. 12 Ohio State is currently the first team out.

True freshman Luke Fahey took over for Sayin against Indiana and started the team's 30-18 road loss to USC. He completed 21-of-38 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown.

Day has already confirmed Fahey will start Saturday at home against Oregon.

Redshirt freshman Tavien St. Clair is the team's backup.
