UF Reportedly Expected to Make QB1 Change, Start Tramell Jones Jr. vs. Oklahoma
Florida is planning to go back to Tramell Jones Jr. at quarterback with Aaron Philo continuing to deal with a shoulder injury.
Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Jones is expected to start for the Gators on Saturday against Oklahoma.
Philo originally injured his shoulder in Florida's loss to South Carolina on Oct. 10. He sat out the win over Texas seven days later, with Jones making his first career start in that game.
Jones finished 22-of-35 for 155 yards with two touchdowns through the air. He added another 41 rushing yards on 10 carries to help the Gators pull off the upset against then-No. 7 Texas in Austin.
After the Gators' bye week, Philo returned as the starter against Georgia on Oct. 31. He struggled with two interceptions on seven pass attempts in the first half, prompting head coach Jon Sumrall to bench him for Jones.
Jones, who was listed as questionable early last week due to an undisclosed injury, didn't fare much better against a ferocious Bulldogs defense. He went 18-of-25 for 172 yards with one interception in a 27-8 loss.
Sumrall has said Jones' injury might require offseason surgery, but he appears to be good enough to take the reins for the offense as the Gators look to get back on track.
A 4-star recruit in the 2025 class, Jones has appeared in nine games through his first two seasons at Florida. He is completing 67.7 percent of his attempts for 770 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Florida is ranked No. 25 in the AP poll with a 5-3 record, including marquee wins over Texas and Mississippi. A victory over Oklahoma (4-4) will make the Gators bowl eligible after going 4-8 last season.
The Gators and Sooners kickoff on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. ET from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
