Brian Kelly Interested in FSU Job After Notre Dame, LSU Stints, 'Would be an Honor'

Timothy RappNov 3, 2026

Brian Kelly certainly seems open to the head-coaching vacancy at Florida State after the program fired Mike Norvell.

"Yeah, I mean, look, when you're talking to an unemployed football coach, every job's a great job, you know? But Florida State, look, I've got a great history with Florida State, great games," he said on College Sports Radio on Sirius XM (h/t Nick Kosko of On3). "I know what that's like, the history and tradition of Florida State, playing in that state, and the fan base. So anytime you have an incredibly brand driven, great tradition and history, there's a want and desire to be part of somebody that has had that success and, certainly, leading that program, from anyone's perspective, would be an honor and privilege."

Kelly, 65, last coached LSU in the 2025 campaign before being fired midseason and ultimately replaced by Lane Kiffin. In stints leading Central Michigan (2004-06), Cincinnati (2006-09), Notre Dame (2010-21) and LSU (2022-25) he's posted a career 200-76 record (officially 179-76 after the NCAA vacated the school's wins in 2012-13 due to an academic infraction).

Florida State seems likely to cast a wide net in its coaching search as it seeks to return to national prominence. Consider Kelly among those willing to throw his hat into the ring.
