SEC Coach Shuts Down FSU Speculation amid Latest Rumors on HC Vacancy After Mike Norvell Firing

After firing head coach Mike Norvell on Sunday, Florida State will have to look elsewhere if it was planning on targeting Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz.

During his press conference on Tuesday, Drinkwitz used his opening statement to put an end to any speculation that he could replace Norvell.

"I'm not a candidate at Florida State," Drinkwitz told reporters. "I want to clear that up. Let's focus on the main thing, which is Texas, and let's eliminate all the distractions and clear the clutter from that standpoint for my team and for everybody out there."

On3.com's Pete Nakos listed Drinkwitz among the "names to know" in the Seminoles' head coaching search.

In his seventh season at the helm of the Tigers, Drinkwitz has led the team to a 6-2 start and a No. 19 ranking in the AP Top 25 ahead of Saturday's home matchup against No. 10 Texas.

While Drinkwitz would surely be a strong candidate to take over at Florida State, he sounds content to stick with Missouri going forward.
