Jim Mora Says He's 'Going to Be An Assh--e' to CSU Players After Loss in Trending Video
Colorado State head coach Jim Mora is ready to make his displeasure known to both staffers and players after falling to 3-5 with a Halloween night loss to Utah State.
"I'm going to be an assh--e," Mora said Saturday when asked what he planned to change this week. "And if they don't like it, there's a door, and they can walk their ass right out."
Mora is in his first season with Colorado after leaving UConn to join the Rams last November.
The Rams started out Mora's first season with wins over Wyoming and Southern Utah before dropping four straight decisions.
Colorado State got back in the win column against San Diego State before dropping to 1-3 in Pac-12 play after allowing 464 total yards from Utah State.
Mora was harshly critical of his entire team following Saturday's 31-14 defeat, which he said he started with a lack of "discipline" from his players ahead of kickoff.
"The very first thing I told the players this week is we will not engage the crowd. The very first thing I saw when we took the field was two of our offensive players that are starters engaging the crowd," Mora said. "That's an indicator of why we played like crap on offense."
Mora continued, "The player is responsible for his emotions. If you, as a coach, are trying to get them up all the time, then you have the wrong players... It's maturity. It's guys that are used to losing. It's the whole transfer portal era where they can now start looking for an off ramp. It's the whole thing."
Mora added he felt there were "absolutely" players who didn't deserve a spot on the Rams roster, while citing his tenure coaching the Atlanta Falcons and his father's NFL experience as reasons he felt he could still turn the program around.
"There's already a list. The list is getting longer," Mora said about staffing an roster changes going forward. "I'm not going to stop with this. I know how to turn programs around. I've done it four times."
The Rams coach added Monday he would be watching "very closely" as to how players responded to coaching this week ahead of a Saturday matchup against visiting No. 20 Boise State.
"You're playing for your position here, your job," Mora said in a calmer Monday press conference.
Saturday's loss was the latest lowlight in chaotic season that saw Mora relieve former defensive coordinator Tyson Summers of his play-calling duties in the middle of a loss to Colorado State.
Mora will hope to keep the Rams on track for potential bowl game eligibility by steadying the team's trajectory over a tough final stretch featuring this weekend's ranked matchup followed by road games at Washington State and Fresno State.
