Adams Forced to Leave Game After Taking Dirty Hit
Sunday, September 6
Adams gave himself up on a scramble midway through the fourth quarter, but got drilled late by an Eastern Washington defender who was then ejected, as 4For4.com's Jordan Heck relayed on Twitter:
Fortunately for the Ducks, Adams returned to the sideline and was seen smiling, according to SB Nation's Addicted to Quack.
"I’m feeling good," Adams told reporters after the game, according to the Oregonian's John Canzano. "Yes, I’ll be out there (against Michigan State)."
Prior to exiting Saturday's 61-42 win, Adams tallied 246 yards and two touchdowns through the air while completing 76 percent of his passes. He also carried the ball 14 times for 94 yards in a performance that showcased why Oregon aimed to bring him aboard.
Ducks fans eagerly anticipated Adams' debut in Eugene. He had thrown for 10,438 yards and 110 touchdowns while running for 1,232 yards and 11 TDs in his three years with Eastern Washington. Of course, he had already won over the Oregon faithful with his 411-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 2013 upset of Oregon State in 2013.
Should the graduate transfer miss time, Oregon will be forced to rely more heavily on Jeff Lockie to run the offense. Lockie is another dual-threat QB, but he isn't quite as dynamic under center as Adams is.
The situation could be much worse for Oregon, but the coaching staff's continued recruitment of Adams in the offseason is perhaps telling as to how it views Lockie's ability.
