'Weakest S--t Ever,' Draymond Green Calls Out Technical Foul from Yaxel Lendeborg-Luka Doncic Spat
Draymond Green is defending Yaxel Lendeborg after the Golden State Warriors rookie received a technical foul late in the second quarter for trash-talking Luka Dončić during the Los Angeles Lakers' 127-105 win on Wednesday night.
On the latest episode of his podcast (starts at 4:25 mark), Green called it the "weakest s--t ever" when discussing Landeborg's technical foul.
"The whole world saw them jawing back and forth. For Yaxel to get a tech for saying something on one play that Luka doesn't say something, I thought was the weakest shit ever. I thought that was pathetic. When a guy is mixing it up with a guy and a rookie is not backing down, you don't punish the rookie with a technical foul because he's not backing down from the superstar. There's enough rookies that back down from superstars. But it's like, get in line. No, you shut up. Why, because he's a rookie, should he shut up? Why? I came in talking. When I hit my game-winner against the Miami Heat as a rookie, me and Bron were already talking, mixing it up. He tells me I'm too little, I score to tell him he's too little, then I get the walk-off. That was, guess what, when you see the respect and love that Bron and I have for each other now, it starts there, from a guy not backing down."
The foul was assessed with 22 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Landeborg and Dončić had been jawing for a bit, then Landeborg kept it going as he was walking up the floor after the Warriors regained possession.
On a night when the Lakers easily defeated Golden State with Dončić, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler combining for 77 of Los Angeles' 127 points, the biggest story coming out of it was Landeborg's comments about Dončić.
Landeborg ripped the Lakers superstar for "complaining the entire game" and that he "lost all respect" for him. He also revealed he told Dončić "he sucks" at one point during the game when they were trash-talking each other.
Dončić immediately responded after the technical foul by hitting a half-court three as time expired in the first half.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game he appreciated Landeborg's "bravado" against Dončić, but did add "don't foul him next time … back up your words."
It was certainly a notable debut for Landeborg, though not for reasons anyone was expecting. The 24-year-old will be relied on heavily by the Warriors, especially with Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody out with injuries, so his confidence will serve him well going forward.
Landeborg and the Warriors will look to bounce back on Friday night when they host the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center.
