Anthony Davis Shines in Wizards Debut Alongside Trae, Box Score Stats, Highlights in Win vs. Bucks
The Washington Wizards are hoping the duo of Anthony Davis and Trae Young can turn them into a playoff contender this year, and they started the 2026-27 campaign on a good note.
With top pick AJ Dybantsa sidelined with an ankle sprain, the Wizards downed the Milwaukee Bucks 128-116. Davis, who was traded to Washington from the Dallas Mavericks last season, had a phenomenal debut, and Young posted a double-double.

Rookies Looking Like Draft Steals 😏
It's hard to judge the Wizards fairly against a team like the Bucks, who traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat this offseason and are beginning a rebuild, but picking up a win in their first game is a positive sign.
While Davis was traded to the Wizards from the Dallas Mavericks ahead of the deadline in February, he missed the second half of the season because of a hand injury, so he was unable to make his debut in Washington.
Davis found himself in trade rumors this offseason, mostly regarding LeBron James' free agency, but the Wizards ultimately decided to keep him in Washington as they look to build a playoff-caliber roster.
Wizards fans haven't seen much of Young, either, since he played just five games in Washington last year while nursing various injuries.
The addition of those two should give Wizards fans plenty to be excited about, and Dybantsa's eventual debut only adds to the hype.
Dybantsa was arguably the best college basketball player in the country as a freshman and was an easy choice to be selected first overall. Washington hopes he can eventually be its franchise player.
While nobody is going to proclaim the Wizards as title contenders this year, they have a roster capable of at least making a run at the play-in, if not earning a top-six seat in the East.
It starts with Davis and Young, but the Wizards also have some solid young pieces in Kyshawn George and Alex Sarr, who will both surely develop even further this year.
Time will tell how much of an impact Dybantsa can make early, but it's hard to imagine he won't be a difference-maker as a rookie.
