Michigan's Bryce Underwood Benched, Latest Rumors on Wolverines' QB Plans vs. Indiana
Michigan is reportedly changing its starting quarterback for Saturday's game against the reigning national champions.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported Tuesday the Wolverines are "expected" to start freshman Tommy Carr against Indiana instead of Bryce Underwood. Carr replaced Underwood during Michigan's most recent game against Penn State and led his team to a 21-18 victory.
To say this is not how Underwood's career with Michigan was expected to unfold would be quite the understatement.

He arrived on campus as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings, and even talked trash to LeBron James about the Ohio State rivalry before he even played a single game.
Underwood was one of the most hyped recruits in recent history, and many Michigan fans surely expected him to lead the team into national championship contention. However, he struggled with consistency as a freshman and ended his first season with 11 touchdown passes to nine interceptions.
He was at his worst in some of the biggest games, including when he went 9-for-24 in a loss to Oklahoma and then failed to back up his words while going 8-of-18 for 63 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in a loss to the rival Buckeyes.
It wasn't much better to start this season, as Underwood has completed just 58.1 percent of his passes for 924 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.
Michigan failed to score a single point in the first half of Saturday's game against Penn State, and head coach Kyle Whittingham decided to bench the starting quarterback at halftime after his second interception.
Carr didn't take over from a statistical perspective at 5-of-7 passing for 47 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions, but he ran for 36 yards and a touchdown.
He also avoided the turnovers and costly mistakes that defined Underwood's game and led the team to a comeback win over the Nittany Lions.
Michigan doesn't have much room for error in the College Football Playoff race with a 4-2 record, but Carr will certainly have his chances to make a national statement with challenging games against Indiana, UCLA, Oregon and Ohio State remaining on the slate.
