Big 12 Admits Error on Clock Controversy in Notre Dame's Loss to BYU, Will Investigate Replay Rules
The Big 12 acknowledged the officials erred in not adding one second back to the clock at the end of BYU's 28-24 victory over Notre Dame.
"Following the Big 12's review of the final play of Saturday's Notre Dame-BYU game, it was determined that time remained on the clock when the ball hit the ground and the play was incorrectly cleared by the replay officiating crew," the conference said, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. "The Conference will conduct a complete review of its end-of-game officiating process in advance of next week's games."

Arch's QB1 Job in Question
CJ Carr's pass to wide receiver Jaden Greathouse fell incomplete as time expired.
The play angered Notre Dame fans on two fronts.
There was seemingly one second showing on the clock inside LaVell Edwards Stadium when the ball hit the turf. This shouldn't have been difficult for the Big 12 officials to verify.
Cougars cornerback Evan Johnson also got away with some contact on Greathouse before the pass arrived. A pass interference penalty would've moved the ball inside the 5-yard line.
Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman opted to take the high road rather than speak candidly about the final play:
Longtime Fox officiating expert Mike Pereira was more demonstrative, telling The Athletic's Pete Sampson and Christopher Kamrani it was "embarrassing for all officiating quite frankly."
"Everybody gets brought into this, even the NFL and high school officiating because it is such a ridiculous miss that has nothing to do with judgment. Nothing," he said. "I understand missing pass interference. This, especially after what happened six weeks ago, it's embarrassing. They get one more play."
Florio appeared to allude to what transpired in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for Michigan's 13-12 win over Western Michigan. In that case, the opposite scenario unfolded as the officials incorrectly put one second back on the clock, leading to Bryce Underwood's successful Hail Mary to JJ Buchanan.
