UTSA 'Deeply Saddened' After Military Member Hospitalized Following Injury During Pregame Stunt

UTSA released a statement after a military service member was hospitalized due to an injury suffered during a demonstration prior to the football team's matchup with Navy on Saturday.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight's game," UTSA said in the statement, via ESPN's Max Olson. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues."

The injury occurred after the officer was set to rappel down to the field, but ended up falling down the line and hitting the ground.

The rappel team team was from Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, via Olson.

Three other members of the military were part of the ceremony, which was for UTSA's Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans night.

The game was delayed by 10 minutes as the officer received medical attention before they were taken off the field on a stretcher. An official with the San Antonio Fire Department said that the patient was transported as priority one, per Natali Castillo of News 4 San Antonio.

The contest eventually started afterward, with UTSA winning over Navy by the final score of 38-34.
