Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame on Wrong Side of CFB History With Rare Stat After Upset Losses

Paul KasabianOct 17, 2026

With Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Indiana and Notre Dame all losing on Saturday, history was made in the college football world.

It also marked the first time in nearly 30 years that the Georgia, Alabama and Texas college football teams lost on the same day.

No. 1 Georgia lost 27-24 at home to unranked Auburn after Tigers kicker Alex McPherson made a 34-yard field goal with no time left.

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown threw for 150 yards and a touchdown and ran for 115 yards and one more score.

No. 6 Alabama fell to No. 14 Tennessee after the Volunteers enjoyed a dominant second half where they outscored the Crimson Tide 14-0. Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

No. 7 Texas dropped a 27-24 home game to unranked Florida after giving up 24 unanswered points, turning a 17-3 lead into a 27-17 deficit.

Texas scored a late touchdown and had a chance to tie or take the lead after forcing a three-and-out, but Florida linebacker Myles Graham's sack of Texas quarterback Arch Manning forced a fumble that was recovered by Gators defensive back Kanye Clark. Florida ran out the clock for the win.

Back on Oct. 26, 1996, No. 7 Alabama lost 20-13 to No. 6 Tennessee, led by future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. Unranked Georgia, in the midst of a tough 5-6 season, lost 24-17 to Kentucky. Unranked Colorado fell 28-24 at No. 8 Colorado.

Notre Dame, meanwhile, lost a top-10 matchup to BYU after failing to find the end zone in the final seconds:

That loss ended Notre Dame's 16-game winning streak.
