CFB Playoff Picture, Standings and Bracket Predictions After Week 7 of 2026-27 Season
A chaotic Saturday afternoon resulted in losses by four of the top seven teams in the AP Top 25.
The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs were stunned at home by the Auburn Tigers in a game that wasn't supposed to have much impact on the College Football Playoff discussion.
The No. 7 Texas Longhorns also fell to an unranked foe at home, as the Florida Gators came back from two scores to down Arch Manning and Co.
The No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers and No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide were on the losing end of Saturday afternoon's biggest games.
Indiana was inches away from pulling off a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes, while Bama fell by two scores on the road to the Tennessee Volunteers.
One more top-10 team is guaranteed to lose on Saturday because the No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the No. 8 BYU Cougars.
If Notre Dame wins, it will assume the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 that Georgia will vacate on Sunday.
The CFB Playoff bracket projection is based on the rankings and results after Saturday afternoon's games.
No. 1 Georgia Stunned At Home By Auburn
1 of 3
Georgia was stunned at home by Auburn in a game no one thought the Bulldogs would lose.
Kirby Smart's Bulldogs blew a 10-point lead and then came back from 10 points down to level the game at 24-24. Auburn took advantage of a Gunner Stockton fumble to set up the game-winning field goal.
The loss occurred one week after UGA went into Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama.
The Bulldogs will drop from the No. 1 spot in the rankings, but they should still be in contention for a first-round bye because they are 6-1 with a top-10 victory.
UGA has a week off next week to prepare for the closing stretch, which begins with a showdown against Florida in Jacksonville on October 31.
The Bulldogs' biggest remaining test comes the week after in Oxford against the Ole Miss Rebels.
Georgia can still afford one more loss with the 12-team playoff in play, but any more that could cost it a spot in the field.
No. 4 Ohio State Survives On Road at No. 5 Indiana
2 of 3
Ohio State took hold of the front-runner spot in the Big Ten with a tight win over Indiana.
The Hoosiers were just a few inches shy of a home win, as Nick Marsh's foot was slightly out of bounds as he hauled in a catch on the final play of the game.
Ohio State left Bloomington with a win, but also without its starting quarterback.
Julian Sayin suffered an injury that will keep him out a few weeks, per Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.
Ohio State will have a week off to prepare for their road trip to Los Angeles to face the USC Trojans.
The Buckeyes' schedule isn't too challenging now that the Oregon Ducks, who they host on November 7, are out of the Top 25, but they'll have to navigate it without Sayin for the time being.
As for Indiana, it sits at 6-1 with only one Top 25 opponent, USC, left on its schedule.
The reigning national champion should be in a good spot to land a playoff berth, but it will have to likely win out to land a spot in the top four.
No. 6 Alabama Loses Second Straight Game
3 of 3
Alabama's CFB Playoff life is in peril after its second consecutive defeat.
The Crimson Tide dropped a road game in Knoxville one week after it lost at home to Georgia.
Alabama is now 5-2 with a road game at the LSU Tigers still on its schedule.
A third loss would most likely keep Kalen Deboer's side out of the playoff.
Tennessee's playoff outlook is now far brighter than it was a week ago. The Vols get LSU and the Kentucky Wildcats at home in their two toughest remaining games.
An 11-1 Tennessee is a real possibility now, and with so many teams at the top losing, the Vols could be poised for a big jump out of the No. 14 spot in Sunday's rankings.
