Arch Manning's Hot Seat as Texas QB Discussed by Sarkisian, 'Everything's Going to Be Evaluated'
Texas football has now lost two straight games to unranked opponents by 27-24 scores after falling to Florida on Saturday. Florida scored 24 unanswered points to turn a 17-3 deficit into a 27-17 lead and held on from there.
Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning threw for just 173 yards and one touchdown, and Texas' hopes effectively ended after he was sacked by Florida linebacker Myles Graham, leading to a fumble recovered by Gators defensive back Kanye Clark with 1:54 left.
After the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said the following when asked about Manning's performance.

Florida Upsets No. 7 Texas 🤯

Sayin Out Several Weeks

Biggest Disappointments of 2026 CFB Season 😞
Last week, the Longhorns lost to their arch-rival, the Oklahoma Sooners. During that game, Manning threw a pick-six to defensive back Peyton Bowen that helped tie the game at 24, and he lefter threw an interception to defensive back Courtland Guillory with 19 seconds left. Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell made a game-winning 49-yard field goal with no time left.
Simply put, the Longhorns have been very inconsistent offensively after beating Texas State 59-7 in the season opener. Manning has only thrown seven touchdowns in five weeks while committing five turnovers (four interceptions, one lost fumble).
Manning entered college football as the top-ranked prospect in the class of 2023, per 247Sports. While he has certainly shown flashes of greatness since becoming the full-time starter last season, Manning's inconsistency has hurt Texas, which was the sport's No. 1 ranked team but might have trouble even making the College Football Playoff at this point.
The Longhorns' road isn't getting any easier, with their next four games against ranked opponents in No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 16 Mississippi State, No. 13 Missouri and No. 22 LSU.
Obviously, Manning's status will be one to monitor given Sarkisian's comments. Texas' backup is redshirt freshman K.J. Lacey, a 4-star class of 2025 prospect from Saraland, Alabama.
Kickoff in Austin next Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
