New NBA Rumors Reveal Why Warriors Didn't Seriously Pursue Anthony Davis, Jaylen Brown Trades

The Golden State Warriors weren't willing to offer Jimmy Butler and the draft capital required to trade for Anthony Davis or Jaylen Brown during the 2026 offseason, according to ESPN's Anthony Slater.

"The Warriors didn't show an appetite to offer Butler for Anthony Davis or Jaylen Brown this summer, considering the pick packages required and contracts attached to both," Slater reported Friday. "All other Butler-plus-picks conversations -- for what the Warriors believe are ultimately lesser players once Butler returns -- were shut down, team sources said."

ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported that the Warriors planned to pursue LeBron James in free agency and Davis on the trade market, pairing them alongside Stephen Curry.

James ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers while Davis stayed put with the Washington Wizards.

The Warriors also could have entered the mix for Brown before deciding not to give up a package that contained roughly four first-round picks, per Charania.

Brown also landed in Philadelphia, as the Boston Celtics traded him to the 76ers on July 1.

The inclusion of Butler also appeared to be a sticking point in discussions involving Davis and Brown. Butler suffered a torn ACL on Jan. 19.

The six-time All-Star has been a key piece of the Warriors' starting lineup when healthy, averaging 19.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 50.1 percent from the field across his two seasons with the organization.

Golden State primarily focused on retaining its own players during the summer, as the team's only external additions were Georges Niang and Brandon Williams.
