Pablo Torre 'Looking Into' LeBron James' Helicopter Contract after Joining 76ers
Journalist and podcaster Pablo Torre says he is "looking into" a contract between Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James and Fanatics that reportedly includes on-demand helicopter travel.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin previously reported James was using a helicopter to commute while splitting his time between New York and Philadelphia after signing with the Sixers this offseason.
Front Office Sports' Daniel Roberts and TMZ Sports added last week the travel was taking place in a Fanatics-branded helicopter as part of James' endorsement deal with the company.
Torre told Roberts he considered the story to be "something of interest to the league" in a Tuesday episode of Front Office Sports' Tuned In.
"We're also getting tips from NBA owners, who are sending me your story, being like, 'What is this?'" Torre told Roberts.
TMZ reported James' "use of any Fanatics aircraft is part of his 'broad long term deal' with the company."
Similar charter flights to the ones James is taking between New York and Philadelphia cost around $6,000 to $9,000 each way, according to TMZ.
Roberts reported the endorsement deal between Fanatics and James "extends to after his playing career is over."
According to Roberts, "a small handful of other athletes with big Fanatics deals get same access" to the brand's aviation.
The staff of Pablo Torre Finds Out won a Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting this May for their investigation into alleged salary cap circumvention by the Los Angeles Clippers, which were penalized in September by the NBA.
James signed a two-year, $8 million deal with a second-year player option earlier this summer before making his debut for the Sixers in preseason action last Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets.
The NBA's all-time leading scorer is set to tip off his first regular season with the Sixers next Tuesday in a road game against the defending champion New York Knicks.
