CFB Playoff Picture, Standings and Bracket Predictions After Week 6 of 2026-27 Season
The Oklahoma Sooners flipped the College Football Playoff conversation on its head on Saturday afternoon.
John Mateer and the Sooners upset the top-ranked Texas Longhorns in Dallas to hand their bitter rival its first loss of the 2026 college football season.
Texas survived a few close calls before Saturday with one-possession wins over the Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee Volunteers.
Arch Manning and Co. will drop from the top position in the rankings, but they shouldn't tumble too far because of their previous wins.
Texas isn't out of the CFB Playoff conversation by any stretch of the imagination either, but it needs to improve if it wants to get through a tough SEC schedule with one or two losses.
The Georgia Bulldogs will assume the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 if they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in Saturday night's marquee game.
If Alabama wins, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish could assume the top spot on Sunday afternoon.
The CFB Playoff bracket projection is based off results through Week 6's afternoon games.
Oklahoma Knocks Off No. 1 Texas
1 of 3
Oklahoma's last-second field goal knocked Texas from the ranks of the unbeaten.
The Longhorns weren't perfect during their reign as the top team in the country.
After all, they needed a come-from-behind effort in the fourth quarter to beat Ohio State and a strong defensive showing to hold off Tennessee.
Texas is far from perfect, but it still has plenty of talent on its roster to recover from Saturday's loss.
Recovering won't be easy, though, as Texas plays five Top 25 teams in the next five weeks.
That might change if the Florida Gators drop out of Sunday's rankings, but that's still one of the toughest stretches any team will face this season.
Texas could find its way back to No. 1 at some point, but for now, it just has to win game by game to stay alive in the postseason mix.
No. 7 Indiana Survives On The Road At Nebraska
2 of 3
Indiana survived an upset bid in Lincoln in Saturday's early afternoon slate.
The Hoosiers trailed for the first time this season, and for a significant chunk of the game, but they answered the call in the fourth quarter.
Josh Hoover threw a pair of long touchdown passes to Nick Marsh to complete the comeback and keep the reigning national champion undefeated for another week.
Indiana hasn't been in the national spotlight much because it hasn't played a ranked team through six weeks.
That changes in Week 7 when the Hoosiers play host to Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
That will be a good barometer of where the Hoosiers stand in the College Football Playoff hierarchy.
Indiana is still on the path to make the playoff, even if it loses to Ohio State, but the game next week in Bloomington will be the test of where it resides in the national title conversation.
No. 13 Oregon, No. 16 Florida Suffer Second Defeats
3 of 3
The Oregon Ducks and Florida Gators have fallen outside the CFB Playoff discussion.
Oregon dropped its second game of the season at home against the UCLA Bruins.
The Ducks already suffered a stunning road loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 2.
Florida suffered its second consecutive defeat. It also lost at home in a far more stunning fashion to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Ducks and Gators each now have two losses in mid-October, a fate that most teams can't recover from to make the playoff.
Oregon still has to play Ohio State on the road, while Florida has Texas and Georgia to finish out October.
A playoff berth isn't entirely out of the question yet, but both teams to run the table and receive help from elsewhere to be considered in the conversation come November.
