Mike Norvell's FSU Contract Buyout, Details Revealed Amid Hot Seat Buzz After Loss to Louisville
Florida State could be one step closer to considering one of the largest coaching contract buyouts in college football history after Friday night's 44-20 loss to Louisville.
The Seminoles fell to 3-3 on the season, and 10-20 in their last three seasons under head coach Mike Norvell, following the blowout loss.
Responding by moving on from Norvell, who is under contract with Florida State through 2031, would be a costly proposition for FSU.

Norvell's contract states he will receive 85 percent of his salary in addition to supplemental funding in case of a buyout, per USA Today's Dan Rorabaugh.
That buyout total was a projected $47.7 million as of Oct. 3, the same day Norvell made his case to stay in his position by leading his team to a win over Virginia, per Rorabaugh.
Norvell's projected buyout would drop to about $46.5 million by Dec. 1, Rorabaugh reported.
Only four coaches have been fired with buyouts worth more than $45 million, including Virginia Tech coach James Franklin, who was fired by Penn State in October 2025.
Like Penn State's buyout of Franklin, Rorabaugh noted the ultimate cost of a potential FSU buyout would be mitigated if Norvell is hired elsewhere.
The cost of parting ways with Norvell could be more expensive than just buying out his contract. On3's Pete Nakos reported the cost of firing Norvell's staff in addition to hiring a replacement is projected to be around $100 million.
Florida State is now riding an 11-game road losing streak into next weekend, during which the Seminoles are slated to take on their highest-ranked opponent of the season so far on Saturday at No. 4 Miami.
