NBA legend Russell Westbrook will be honored by the City of Los Angeles following the end of his iconic career.

Per Christine Samra of KTLA 5, City Councilwoman Heather Hutt will give Westbrook a certificate to honor his retirement from the NBA as well as his efforts in the community. The ceremony will take place on Friday.

Westbrook, a Los Angeles native who attended UCLA and later played for the Lakers and Clippers, started the Westbrook Why Not? Foundation, which "aims to create pathways of empowerment for underserved communities in the areas of educational opportunities, workforce development and accessible mental health resources."

Westbrook announced his retirement from the NBA in August after 18 seasons in the league. It marked the end of a career that featured an MVP award, nine All-Star appearances and seven All-NBA nods.

Westbrook spent the majority of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by stints with the Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets and Kings.

The triple-double machine was known for his explosiveness and energy he brought to the court, but he has made and continues to make an impact on each community he's been a part of.
