CFP Playoff Bracket, Scenarios and Bowl Projections After 2026-27 Week 6 AP Rankings
A rare status quo week occurred at the top of the AP Top 25.
The Texas Longhorns, Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State Buckeyes remained the top five teams in that order for the second straight week.
In fact, the only notable change came from the Florida Gators' drop from No. 8 to No. 16 following their road loss to the Missouri Tigers.
Missouri worked its way up to No. 14, but it is still on the outside of the projected College Football Playoff positions going into Week 6.
The projections above are based on the current rankings and results through five weeks.
Florida Tumbles Out of Top 10
1 of 2
Florida failed to follow up its upset win over the Ole Miss Rebels with another Top 25 victory.
The Gators were blown out by Missouri on Saturday, which caused a drop down to No. 16 in Sunday's AP Top 25.
Jon Sumrall's team received a world of praise in the last week for its 4-0 start, but the breaks were pumped on the hype train after Saturday's result.
The Gators have now gone from a potential surprise playoff team to a ball club that could be holding for its life inside the Top 25 by the end of October.
Florida visits Texas on October 17 and then plays Georgia in Jacksonville on October 31. There's a real possibility the Gators are a three-loss team by the end of that stretch.
An upset could always happen, but right now, the lofty expectations that started to grow in Gainesville have to be tempered after the drop out of the top 10.
BYU Makes Biggest Move Inside Top 10

The BYU Cougars inched their way up to No. 8, a two-spot leap from No. 10.
BYU picked up two consecutive road wins to move to 4-0 and continue its preparation for an October 17 clash with Notre Dame.
BYU doesn't play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 regular season, so the clash with Notre Dame is the most important matchup in the CFB Playoff context for the Cougars.
The Cougars' positioning in the rankings is important to note, though, because they still might get into the playoff field as a one-loss team with its lone defeat at the hands of Notre Dame. Their toughest game in the Big 12 is the rivalry clash with the Utah Utes.
With BYU, Texas Tech and Utah all inside the top 12, it seems as though the Big 12 is in a far better position than the ACC to get multiple teams into a bracket that is expected to be dominated by Big Ten and SEC schools.
