Deion Sanders, Colorado Reveal Names of Players Dismissed After Loss to Northwestern

Colorado has confirmed the names of the three players Deion Sanders said he removed from his roster following a blowout loss to Northwestern in September.

The players removed from the roster were cornerbacks Jah Jah Boyd, Justin Eaglin and Paul Omodia, a Colorado spokesperson told The Athletic's Christopher Kamrani.

According to Kamrani, a source said "the players will likely not have a chance to earn their way back onto the roster."

Sanders said on a Sept. 23 episode of Coach Prime's Playbook with Romi Bean he had dismissed three players for "conduct detrimental to the team."

The inciting incident leading to the athletes' dismissals took place after Colorado lost 41-7 at Northwestern back on Sept. 19, according to Sanders.

Sanders said he was upset after the loss because some of his players had been acting in "a laughing manner" on their way out of the game.

"I don't understand how you can have joy in a loss, especially when I'm upset, and I'm walking right behind you... I don't understand that, and I addressed it," Sanders said in his postgame press conference.

Sanders said a few days later there had been "a few guys" dismissed from the program.

"They understand that it's real, that we ain't playing," Sanders told Bean about how the rest of his players reacted to their teammates' dismissals. "If you ain't with us, you ain't with us... We're not standing for that. We will remove you because you ain't with us."

All three players impacted by the suspensions were upperclassmen who transferred to Sanders' program ahead of the 2026 season.

Boyd was a member of Indiana's championship team before transferring to Colorado, where he recorded seven solo tackles and a forced fumble in the Buffaloes' first three games of the season.

Eaglin and Omodia, who transferred from JMU and Lamar, respectively, had each appeared in two games for the Buffaloes.

Sanders said last weekend he has dismissed players from his team "every single year" as head coach, although he declined to specify who he was referring to.

The Buffaloes are heading into the weekend with defensive backs Jason Stokes Jr., Makari Vickers and Braylon Edwards out due to injury. The depth of Colorado's secondary will be put to the test when the Buffaloes (2-2) host undefeated Texas Tech Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
