The Wildcats played their first two games of the 2026 season at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium before switching to the new 35,000-seat venue for Friday's contest.
The updated stadium itself is 320,000 square feet larger than the old Ryan Field and is surrounded by 200,000 square feet of festival grounds.
Northwestern football head coach David Braun was impressed with the seating design of the stadium.
"The fans are truly on top of the action. I mean they are a part of the game," Braun said, per NBC 5 Chicago. "Standing at midfield, I mean you almost feel like you can reach out and touch the stands. And the acoustics that that's going to create with the canopy creates for an incredible opportunity for a home-field advantage."
The Wildcats own a 2-1 record this season, looking to build upon their 7-6 finish during their 2025 campaign.
