Tyler Adams Named USMNT Captain by Mauricio Pochettino After Tim Ream's International Retirement
United States men's national soccer team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has named midfielder Tyler Adams as the new captain after ex-captain and center back Tim Ream announced his international retirement.
The 27-year-old Adams, who also plays for Bournemouth, has made 60 lifetime appearances for the United States dating back to 2017.
Adams previously captained the United States squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, leading the Americans out of the group stage and into the Round of 16. Last May, Pochettino announced Ream as the team's captain for this year's World Cup. The Americans won their group and beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 before losing to Belgium.
At the club level, Adams began his career with New York Red Bulls before moving to RB Leipzig in 2019. He left there in 2022 for a season with Leeds United before signing a five-year deal with Bournemouth in 2023. Adams helped the team finish sixth in the Premier League table last year.
Currently, the USMNT is playing a run of international friendlies. They recently beat Peru 4-1 and Chile 4-2 and will now face Mexico on Saturday and Canada on Tuesday.
