Deion Sanders Reportedly Benches Julian Lewis, Isaac Wilson Named Colorado's QB1 vs. TTU

In need of a spark for his struggling offense, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is making a change at quarterback.

Per Pete Nakos of On3.com, Isaac Wilson is set to replace Julian Lewis as the Buffaloes' starter for Saturday's game against Texas Tech.

Lewis' stat line through four games doesn't look bad, but the floor for the offense has been so low that it's untenable right now. He has thrown for 733 yards, six touchdowns, two interceptions and completed 64.2 percent of his attempts.

His only game with more than 150 passing yards was against FCS opponent Weber State when he had 366 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 win.

In Colorado's three games against FBS opponents, Lewis has thrown for a total of 365 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The team has scored 34 points in those games.

Wilson, who transferred to Colorado in January after two seasons with Utah, has appeared in two games this season. He replaced Lewis for the second half of Saturday's 23-13 loss against Baylor.

Colorado scored 10 points in the final two quarters of the game, matching its total from the previous six quarters combined. Lewis finished 12-of-25 for 156 yards and one touchdown.

This is a difficult first starting assignment for Lewis against No. 12 Texas Tech, though it is at least a home game. Texas Tech has won three of its first four games by at least 10 points.

Colorado beat Texas Tech 41-27 in the last meeting between these two teams, but that was during the 2024 season when Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter were still on the roster.

The Buffaloes have lost their last two games after a 2-0 start to the season. They have dropped seven of their last nine games dating back to last year.

Saturday's game between Texas Tech and Colorado at Folsom Field kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
