Bill Belichick Addresses UNC Investigation, Says Team Will 'Do Everything the Right Way'

Following an investigation into the culture of North Carolina's football program, Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick addressed the investigation's findings and resolution.

"We have a plan in place to continue to make this, our workplace, function at a high standard and do everything the right way," Belichick said, per The Athletic's Brendan Marks.

The investigation found that "certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina's values and standards of conduct." Belichick said that he and the leaders of the program will continue to meet with the outside counsel that conducted the investigation.

"That's our goal, to do things the right way, and be productive and consistent doing them," Belichick said. "In areas that we can improve in, we should … do that. All that was done by the outside counsel and the people that were part of that, and so we'll meet with them — and have met with them — to finalize (that)."

The investigation included allegations of drug use and inappropriate relationships, though the university said the actions were "isolated" and "not a systematic failure."

Belichick said that he "tried to do" what investigators asked and that he "cooperated with them the best I could."

UNC's football general manager, Michael Lombardi, was placed on administrative leave by the school over the summer after a human resources complaint filed by a former UNC front office employee. That led to a larger investigation of the program, and Lombardi later resigned from his position.

Amid the investigation, Belichick's son and the team's defensive coordinator, Steve Belichick, also resigned.

North Carolina, which is in its second season under Belichick, started the season 2-0 with wins over TCU and ETSU before a 28-20 loss against Clemson. After a bye week on Saturday, the Tar Heels will face No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday.
