CFB Playoff Picture, Standings and Bracket Predictions After Week 4 of 2026-27 Season

The SEC is such a beast of a conference that the Ole Miss Rebels can be the kings of the sport one week and the victim of an upset one week later.

Trinidad Chambliss and Co. fell on the road to the Florida Gators, one week after they knocked off Lane Kiffin's LSU Tigers at home.

In the 12-team College Football Playoff era, one loss won't derail a program's playoff prospects, but the defeat does cool some of the heat that was behind Ole Miss after last week.

While Ole Miss will drop a bit in the Week 5 rankings, the same team will reside at the top.

The Texas Longhorns moved to 4-0 with a defensive-dominated road win over the Tennessee Volunteers.

The CFB Playoff projections are based on results through Saturday afternoon's games.

Florida Upends No. 4 Ole Miss

The Florida Gators entered their name into the CFB Playoff conversation with their 52-28 thumping of Ole Miss in Gainesville.

Jon Sumrall's team moved to 4-0 with the victory over the fourth-ranked team in the country.

The win was a statement of intent in Sumrall's first season in charge.

The Gators will likely jump from No. 21 further up the AP Top 25 on Sunday, but they might not reach the top 12 just yet.

There are opportunities, though, for the Gators to climb since they still have to play No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Georgia.

However, the big game in Florida's playoff case could be next week at Missouri. If the Gators win in Missouri and only lose to Texas and Georgia, they have a compelling case as 10-2 at-large team.

As for Ole Miss, it will drop a bit in the standings, but its resume still has two ranked wins over LSU and Louisville.

Ole Miss also has Texas and UGA on its remaining schedule, as well as Missouri and Mississippi State among the top 25 teams in the SEC.

The Rebels will be competitive in most games because of Trinidad Chambliss, but they need to figure out the defense that has now allowed 38 and 52 points in two of four games this season.

Texas Keeps Rolling With Win Over Tennessee

Texas left Knoxville with a 4-0 record because of its defense.

The Longhorns recorded 10 sacks, five of which came from star pass-rusher Colin Simmons, in the 20-17 victory.

Arch Manning didn't have the best game, but he did push the Texas offense down the field in the fourth quarter to produce an important touchdown.

Texas is now 4-0 with a road Top 25 win in the SEC and a home victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Texas still has six ranked opponents on its SEC schedule, but at least for now, it rest for a week with an undefeated record.

The Longhorns are next in action on October 10 in their annual rivalry clash with the Oklahoma Sooners. After that, five consecutive ranked foes face Texas. We'll find out more about the Longhorns during that stretch.
