Bryce Underwood, No. 16 Michigan Avoid WMU Upset Bid on Hail Mary, Final Box Score Stats, Highlight

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood uncorked a 47-yard Hail Mary pass that landed in wide receiver JJ Buchanan's hands for a game-winning touchdown with no time remaining as the No. 16 Wolverines survived a tremendous upset attempt from the visiting Western Michigan Broncos and won 13-12.

Michigan was a monstrous 27.5-point favorite heading into this game, per FanDuel Sportsbook. However, the Wolverines offense simply could get nothing going on offense in between a touchdown-scoring opening drive and the final play. That didn't matter, though, as the Wolverines ultimately came through with the big win.

This game won't be without controversy, however. On the penultimate play, Underwood threw a Hail Mary that went through the end zone and into a throng of players that was navigating out-of-bounds.

Upon further review, it appeared the game clock hit zero before it deflected off any players going for the pass, meaning the game should have ended.

Sports journalist and writer Rodger Sherman of the Sports! newsletter notably edited the video of the play, and the ball is just a few feet away from coming in contact with anyone on the field.

It initially appeared that Western Michigan won the game, and the Broncos began celebrating. After an official review, however, one second was put back on the clock. That led to Underwood's Hail Mary miracle and Michigan's great escape.

NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay questioned how Big Ten officials arrived at there being one second left on the clock.
