Kevin Durant Reveals Best 'On Paper' Team He's Played for Between Warriors, Nets in New Video

Kevin Durant says the best on-paper roster he's ever been a part of didn't belong to the mid-dynasty Golden State Warriors.

"Just looking at straight roster, nothing else—yeah, I would say Brooklyn," Durant said when asked about the best team of his career on a Thursday episode of Boardroom Talks.

Durant joined the Nets ahead of the 2019-20 season. Players including Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Patty Mills and Paul Millsap played for the franchise during his tenure in Brooklyn, culminating with a dramatic seven-game series against the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021 playoffs.

Durant had in 2016 joined a Warriors team that won 73 games the season prior thanks to a roster led by Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

"We had the names on that team, when just looking at straight paper," Durant said. "I know people want to say, 'The Warriors had Steph and Klay.' But I'm like, when you look at that team— at the time, Steph was an MVP, but Klay and Draymond din't get the accolades at that time."

"These dudes I'm talking about already completed their careers, damn near, and on top of me, James and Kyrie... when you're just putting accolades on the table, I would say that [Nets] team."

This isn't the first time Durant has referred to a lack of accolades earned by Warriors players at the time he joined the franchise.

He wrote on social media earlier this summer the 2026-27 Philadelphia 76ers were stronger than the dynasty Warriors on paper in part because Thompson was "never a MVP candidate in nothing."

Regardless of individual honors, Durant told Boardroom the Warriors' 2018 or 2019 teams were the best of his 18-year NBA career.

Durant is heading into his 19th NBA campaign and his second year with the Rockets after averaging 26 points per game last season.

The Rockets are hoping to win a playoff series for the first time since 2020 next spring after bolstering their own roster with the offseason additions of Bogdan Bogdanović and Marcus Smart.
