5-Star OT Austin Attalah Announces CFB Commitment Between Texas, Texas Tech, USC

The college football season kicks off this week, but Texas Tech has already scored a win thanks to top offensive tackle recruit Austin Attalah.

Attalah told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com on Tuesday that he will join the Red Raiders as part of their 2028 recruiting class. The California native picked Texas Tech over Texas and USC.

247Sports' composite rankings have Attalah rated as a 5-star prospect, the third-best offensive tackle and No. 27 overall recruit in 2028.

In his scouting evaluation of Attalah for 247Sports, Gabe Brooks described his hand work and punch power as "works in progress" but the ceiling is that of a "high-major tackle who could become a pro prospect."

Attalah's commitment is yet another recruiting win for head coach Joey McGuire. Texas Tech has been among the best programs in the nation at landing new talent over the past two years.

The 2025 season saw the Red Raiders finish with the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country thanks to additions like David Bailey and Romello Height.

That group helped catapult Texas Tech to a 12-2 record, its first double-digit win season since 2008 and its first-ever Big 12 title. The team made the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed, but lost its first playoff game to Oregon in the quarterfinal.

McGuire and his staff have been able to carry that momentum over into 2026 and beyond. The incoming freshman class this year is ranked 15th nationally, led by 5-star tackle Felix Ojo.

It's still very early in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but Attalah is one of two players the Red Raiders have landed thus far. The other is punter Luc Normand.

Texas Tech will open this season ranked No. 12 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, its highest spot in the preseason poll since 2008. The Red Raiders will open the year against Abilene Christian on Sept. 5.
