NASCAR Legend Jeff Gordon Wins IROC Street Race in Washington, D.C. at 55 Years Old
NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon has won an individual race for the first time in 11 years.
Gordon claimed two first-place finishes Saturday as the International Race of Champions returned to Washington, D.C. ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
The 55-year-old drove both 10-lap races around the National Mall in a No. 24 car owned by Rick Hendrick.
Gordon's last individual first-place victory took place in 2015 with a Cup Series win at Martinsville Speedway. He retired from full-time racing following the 2015 season.
He returned to the top of the podium Saturday after passing Helio Castroneves to take the lead in the first race.
He overtook Castroneves and Tony Kanaan in the second race to sweep the day. Fellow NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch finished the competition in second place.
This marked the first street race for Gordon, who retired as NASCAR's all-time leader in road course wins.
The IROC event preceded the IndyCar Freedom 250, which is set to take place on the National Mall later Saturday afternoon.
