Expert College Football Betting Locks for 2026 Win Total Bets
On paper, it all looks so easy.
The wins and losses seem so clear months in advance, before a single point is scored in the college football season. The reality, however, is that the unexpected will become the norm, and many of the assumptions made in August will prove wrong, one way or another.
Which leads up to the assignment of tackling this year's lineup of win totals. Perhaps no future bet is more direct than this one, the art of predicting whether a football team will overperform or underperform.
Some games are locks. Some are coin flips. Some, for most, are uphill climbs. Very little of it will go to plan, although a final number will be decided at the end.
With no shortage of teams to pick from, that's what we set out to do today. From the good to the (potentially) bad, here are some of the win totals we like heading into the season.

Penn State Over 9.5 Wins (+118)

With so much change, there is much to discuss. But rather than start at the QB or the coach or the many new faces, we must start with the schedule.
In a word, woof.
In fact, let's take it a step further Double woof.
Penn State does not play Ohio State, Indiana or Oregon. Road games at Michigan and Washington will be a challenge, and a home game against USC won't be easy. But Matt Campbell is primed to start his Happy Valley tenure with a bang.
As for the roster, it features a plethora of new faces. The most important is unquestionably quarterback Rocco Becht, who joined Campbell at Penn State along with his offensive coordinator.
Also joining them is tight end Benjamin Brahmer, who was a massive, critical weapon for Becht in Ames.
The defense should be good right away thanks to defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, who worked wonders at USC. He'll have to manage a defense filled with change, and he'll have capable players to work with.
Everything is aligned here for Penn State to win 10 games, even if that might seem a little too soon for some.
South Carolina Under 6.5 Wins (-120)

The good news for those who feel South Carolina is capable of a bounceback season is that things start favorably.
Kent State, Towson and Mississippi State are on the docket to start the year, although the game against the Bulldogs is no pushover. From there, perhaps outside of a road trip to Arkansas, the schedule is an absolute gauntlet.
Road trips include visits to Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma and Clemson. South Carolina will also play Tennessee, Texas A&M and Georgia.
Yikes.
Yes, there is talent on this roster. In fact, the high-end talent is exceptional. Dylan Stewart is an elite defensive player. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers and wideout Nyck Harbor have seemingly unlimited potential on offense.
Sellers, in particular, is critical. He must play better than he did last year, and he likely will be. But unless he makes that next, next step, it's hard to envision South Carolina navigating such a difficult path without anything beyond bowl eligibility.
Oklahoma State Over 6.5 Wins (+112)

No team endured a makeover larger than what happened at Oklahoma State. Mike Gundy was fired, Eric Morris was hired and the roster was essentially remade from scratch.
The most interesting part, however, is what Morris brought with him to start. For all the new faces, none are more impactful than quarterback Drew Mestemaker and running back Caleb Hawkins.
Both give this team a shot. It's that simple.
Sure, the pieces have to come together in a short period of time, but such is life in college football in 2026.
For a team with so many new parts, the schedule (and conference) cooperates. A Week 2 game against Oregon likely won't go well. But beyond that, no individual game on the schedule feels unconquerable.
The only certainty in the Big 12 is that Texas Tech, even with questions at QB, is likely to be the most talented team in the conference by a wide margin. Outside of that, the path is clear for a team like Oklahoma State to break through.
It's a lot to ask for a program that has changed so much. But the talent at key positions gives them a shot.
Texas A&M Under 8.5 Wins (-144)

The roster is talented, the head coach is excellent, and the team is coming off a College Football Playoff showing. With that firmly acknowledged, the Aggies could struggle to deliver the kind of season they did one season ago.
On offense, the line had to be remade and KC Concepcion, the team's best wideout, is off to the NFL.
Marcel Reed certainly has plenty of skills, but his accuracy remains a work in progress. It was also evident in his team's final two games last season. Against Texas and Miami, the QB accounted for four interceptions and no scores.
Again, he can be great. But it's fair to assess just how much better he will be, especially with many new pieces around him.
The other reality A&M faces is the schedule. Last year, things broke well. The Aggies were 4-0 in the regular season in games decided by a touchdown or less, and they certainly needed plenty of unique moments to get there.
This year, things seem tougher on paper. It doesn't start terribly tough, although the final five games are as such: at Alabama, at South Carolina, vs. Tennessee, at Oklahoma and vs. Texas.
Not ideal.
Ole Miss Over 8.5 Wins (+120)

When you retrace how exactly Ole Miss came within a few plays of making the national championship, it still doesn't feel quite real.
The Rebels changed their starting QB, lost their coach and somehow kept it together amid chaos. Now, Pete Golding will have a shot at delivering an encore from start to finish.
In many respects, this is a bet on Trinidad Chambliss. He started the year as an unknown backup, and he emerged as one of the most exciting players in all of college football. Having running back Kewan Lacy back gives Ole Miss the most electric tandem in the country.
Sure, the schedule is brutal. Of course it is.
The Rebels start with Louisville, and that won't be a picnic. They're currently less than a touchdown favorite.
They'll play LSU a few weeks later at home, which promises to be one of the wildest environments of the year. Games at Florida, Texas and Oklahoma will also be challenging.
Like many in the SEC, the schedule will require plenty of things to go right and key players to stay healthy. But the quarterback is simply sensational, and that alone is worth betting on.

Washington Over 7.5 Wins (-162)
Sure, the offseason was turbulent. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was seemingly headed elsewhere, although he landed back with his team from a year ago. Washington has a cozy start to its season and a slew of winnable games along the way. Anything less than eight wins would surprise.
Houston Under 8.5 Wins (-142)
The Cougars were a tremendous surprise last year, and head coach Willie Fritz will have quarterback Conner Weigman back. Still, the offensive line needs major massaging and the schedule, in particular the road trips on tap, could make this a more difficult campaign to navigate.
NC State Over 7.5 Wins (+100)
There's not a game on the schedule that doesn't feel like it can't be won. A road trip to Vanderbilt and a home game against Louisville are the highlights on paper, and even those games can be conquered. The rest of the slate is supremely manageable, and quarterback CJ Bailey is poised for a breakout year.
Michigan State Under 4.5 Wins (-188)
Pat Fitzgerald is back, and we'll see how exactly he fits Michigan State long term. In the short term, he's coming into a difficult situation. Having to play Notre Dame in an out-of-conference game is not what any first-year head coach wants. And while some of the conference games feel like a coin flip, Sparty might not be ready for what's about to transpire.
