Luka Doncic Charters Plane to Slovenia for Lakers, Details for Team-Bonding Trip Revealed in Video
It was already known Luka Dončić was planning a team-bonding trip to Slovenia for his Los Angeles Lakers teammates, but now we have details of what the trip will entail.
Appearing on ESPN Los Angeles' Mason & Ireland show, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne explained Dončić chartered a plane for 14 members of the Lakers, who will receive gift bags, eat at his favorite restaurant, fish at Lake Bled and golf during the five-day excursion.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported last month that Dončić was preparing a four-day "minicamp" in August to help the revamped roster develop chemistry away from the court.
It was believed that at least 16 of the 17 players under contract to the Lakers were planning to go, including Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler and Bronny James.
This has been a significant offseason for the Lakers, in ways both anticipated and unexpected. The departure of LeBron James in free agency wasn't a total shock.
It did open the door for the front office to continue reshaping the roster to better fit around Dončić. Their biggest move was acquiring Kessler from the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade in which he signed a four-year, $130 million contract.
The Lakers also added Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes via free agency and drafted Cameron Carr in the first round.
One move that came out of nowhere was Mark Walter agreeing to sell his majority stake in the Lakers last week for a $12.5 billion valuation just 10 months after his purchase of the franchise was formally approved by the NBA board of governors.
There was no indication team executives were participating in the trip, so that deal doesn't seem likely to impact Dončić's activities with his teammates for the week.
Dončić is now the unquestioned face of the Lakers franchise with James joining the Philadelphia 76ers. The six-time All-Star is taking that responsibility seriously with this event.
In an ideal scenario, the bonding leads directly into a strong training camp where all of the new pieces get acclimated to head coach JJ Redick's system quickly and the Lakers emerge as one of the top teams in the Western Conference during the 2026-27 season.
