Vasco da Gama midfielder Thiago Mendes notably snubbed Santos star Neymar during the pre-match handshake ahead of Santos' 3-0 win on Sunday in the Brazilian Série A.

This appears to stem from a 2020 incident in which Mendes received a red card for a hard tackle on Neymar during a Ligue 1 match. Mendes, who apologized for the challenge, received death threats in the aftermath.

He and Neymar had a more direct confrontation this past February during an encounter between their respective clubs.
