Cam Vaughn Dismissed from Miami After Transfer from WVU, HC Mario Cristobal Announces

Miami coach Mario Cristobal announced Monday that wide receiver Cam Vaughn has been dismissed from the team.

Cristobal didn't disclose a reason for Vaughn's exit when breaking the news on WQAM's The Joe Rose Show (via Adam Lichtenstein of the Sun Sentinel).

Vaughn, a redshirt junior, transferred to Miami from West Virginia this offseason. He caught 35 passes for 541 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games with the Mountaineers.

Vaughn started his career at Jacksonville State and elevated to a starting role as a redshirt freshman in 2024. He was the team leader in the three major receiving categories after finishing with 48 receptions, 803 yards and five scores.

Vaughn at least figured to be a good a downfield threat for Miami, having averaged 16.2 yards per catch to this point.

The passing game returns breakout star Malachi Toney, and Cristobal signed former Duke wideout Cooper Barkate in the transfer portal to make life a little easier for quarterback Darian Mensah following his own move from Durham. South Carolina transfer Vandrevius Jacobs adds further depth at the position.

The Hurricanes are less than a month out from their opener on Sept. 4 against Stanford. Vaughn's dismissal is an unexpected setback but shouldn't be a significant blow to the offense when Mensah still has solid options through the air.
