Anthony Richardson's Colts Future Addressed by Assistant GM After QB's Trade Request

Andrew PetersAug 16, 2026

Anthony Richardson is still hoping to be traded by the Indianapolis Colts, but that may not be in the team's plans this season.

Assistant general manager Ed Dodds told reporters Sunday that the team prefers to keep Richardson around for depth purposes.

"We want to have three [quarterbacks] that can play," Dodds said. "So, if [Richardson] is one of them, he's going to be here. ... Look at last year. You never know."

Regarding Richardson's trade request, Dodds said, "You take care of your own team first."

While Richardson perhaps wants to get a fresh start elsewhere, he said earlier this month that he's willing to stay with the Colts if that's what's best for the team.

"Man, if that's what the team wants, that's what I want," he said. "I just want go be able to help a team. If it's this team, then I thank God for it. I'm just ready to showcase what I can do."

Richardson has had a disappointing start to his career and presumably won't get much playing time this year with Daniel Jones set to return to his duties under center.

Indianapolis declined Richardson's fifth-year option in April, meaning he'll be a free agent after the 2026 campaign.
