AP Top 25 Rankings Release Time for 2026 Preseason College Football Standings

Joe TanseyAug 16, 2026

Monday's release of the preseason AP Top 25 is yet another sign that college football is almost is back.

Many of the sport's most notable programs are expected to be high up the AP Top 25.

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns should be top-five programs in the poll. That should continue to set the buzz for the Week 2 matchup between the Big Ten and SEC powers.

The preseason AP Top 25 will be released at Noon ET on Monday.

Ohio State already sits atop one preseason poll. It was ranked No. 1 in the Coaches Poll two weeks ago.

The Buckeyes beat out the Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Texas and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The reigning national champion Indiana Hoosiers came in sixth in the Coaches Poll.

A similar order is expected to be seen in Monday's AP poll. A year ago, the same six teams held the top six places in the preseason AP and Coaches polls.

We shouldn't expect to see any massive differences between the two polls because there's a general consensus of which teams are at least projected to be good in 2026.

The Big Ten and SEC should dominate the AP poll, just like they did in the Coaches poll.

Eight of the top 10 teams and 18 of the 25 teams ranked in the Coaches poll came from the Big Ten and SEC. That number should be the same, if not more, in the AP release.
