Steph Curry Contract Extension Eyed by Warriors, Dunleavy Talks 'Super Aggressive' FA Approach

Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. was optimistic about reaching a contract extension agreement with Stephen Curry.

"I'm confident he wants to win and I'm confident he wants to finish his career as a Warrior," Dunleavy told reporters on Tuesday.

Dunleavy also said that he's been "super aggressive" with his approach to the 2026 offseason.

"We're super aggressive," Dunleavy said, per ClutchPoints' Kenzo Fukuda. "I mean, if people knew the cold calls I made, offering a lot of stuff for players, I think they'd realize how hard we're trying."

The Warriors are also open to improving their roster via trade during the 2026-27 season.

"If you just look at our books, our assets... we've got a lot of ways to entice teams and make things available and worthwhile for them to do a trade with us," Dunleavy explained, via Fukuda. "... I feel pretty confident that if we have to improve the roster in the middle of the season, we can."

Golden State didn't make any major external additions during the summer, focusing on retaining its own players instead.

The Warriors brought back Draymond Green, Kristaps Porziņģis, Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II.

Golden State was reportedly among the teams pursuing LeBron James in free agency, although he ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The majority of the Warriors' roster will look the same compared to their 2025-26 campaign in which they finished with a 37-45 record, although it's worth noting that they were hit hard by injuries last season.

This included Curry, who was limited to just 43 regular-season appearances due to knee issues.

Still, the 12-time All-Star averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game on 46.8/39.3/92.3 shooting splits when healthy.

Curry will become eligible to receive a new two-year, $136.7 million extension with the Warriors on Aug. 29 (h/t ESPN's Bobby Marks).

Although Golden State may not be viewed among the top contenders in the Western Conference following a relatively quiet offseason, Curry could still end up signing an extension before the team makes a move prior to next year's trade deadline.
