Lane Kiffin 'Gets Too Much Credit for' Trinidad Chambliss' Success at Ole Miss, Says Rival SEC Coach

After former head coach Lane Kiffin's departure to LSU, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will have the chance to prove that he's not a one-year wonder.

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg spoke to a rival SEC coach who expressed confidence that Chambliss will continue to excel without Kiffin's direction.

"He's a dude," an SEC coach said. "Lane probably gets too much credit for Trinidad."

After leading Ferris State to a Division II national championship in the 2024 season, Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss. Despite being listed at just 6'0", the signal-caller had no problems adjusting to the size and skill of the SEC, as he completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns and three interceptions while also adding 527 rushing yards and eight more scores. He helped lead the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals before losing to Miami.

"His mechanics are more sound, and he played well last year," a coach set to face Chambliss this fall said. "He played good football, and he led the team."

After former defensive coordinator Pete Golding took over as Ole Miss head coach following Kiffin's departure, Chambliss will try to show that he can still be effective while playing under a new regime.

"Trinidad is not underrated now, and he's a quick decision-maker," an SEC defensive coordinator said. "He makes fast decisions. He can obviously hurt you with his legs, can hurt you with his arm. He's just a playmaker. He makes guys around him better."
