New Rumors on Liverpool FC Sale Reveal Jeff Bezos, Eduardo Saverin Links and Updated Timeline
Fenway Sports Group is nearing a deal to sell a minority ownership stake in Liverpool FC, according to Sky News' Mark Kleinman.
"One source indicated that an announcement was expected in the coming days, although they cautioned that it could slip into next week," Kleinman reported.
Under the proposed terms, FSG would sell around a one-third stake in Liverpool, and the deal would value the club at $6 billion. The group making the purchase is led by Amit Bhatia and includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Liverpool confirmed in July it received formal interest from Bhatia about "making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
To further signal his intentions, Bhatia resigned from his role on the board of Queens Park Rangers. He had been working at the club since 2007.
This would be Bezos' first foray into sports ownership. He was linked with a purchase of the NFL's Washington Commanders in 2023 but declined to make a concrete bid.
While Fenway Sports Group isn't divesting itself entirely from its portfolio, it has signaled in recent years it's ready to shift its focus.
FSG sold a much smaller minority stake in Liverpool in 2023, and the Hoffman Family purchased a controlling stake of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins from FSG in 2025. The ownership group also recently abandoned plans to pursue a multi-club model in which Liverpool would've sat at the top.
Fenway Sports Group has been in charge at Anfield since 2010. Liverpool was a distressed asset at the time, owing to mismanagement from the previous owners. The £300 million price tag paid by FSG now looks like a massive bargain as the Reds reestablished themselves as one of England's most successful clubs.
During the FSG era, Liverpool has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League medal in 2018-19.
