Liverpool FC Announces Minority Stake Sale to Jeff Bezos, Eduardo Saverin Group

Fenway Sports Group has completed a deal to sell a minority ownership stake in Liverpool FC to a group that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

According to the club, the stake was sold to "1892 Holdings, a consortium led and managed by Amit Bhatia, with investments from Amit Bhatia and the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports (a K5 Global Fund), with Jeff Bezos as the lead investor in the K5 Sports fund, and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin."

"Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club's long-term interests in mind," FSG president Mike Gordon said. "That approach continues to attract interest from respected investors and business leaders around the world. As we considered this opportunity, it became clear that Amit and the consortium shared our long-term philosophy and appreciation for what makes Liverpool special. Their experience and perspective will complement the strong foundation already in place, and we look forward to working together."

Sky News' Mark Kleinman initially reported the group was nearing an acquisition of a stake in the Premier League club at a valuation of around $6 billion.

Liverpool confirmed in July it received formal interest from Bhatia about "making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

To further signal his intentions, Bhatia resigned from his role on the board of Queens Park Rangers. He had been working at the club since 2007.

This marks Bezos' first foray into sports ownership. He was linked with a purchase of the NFL's Washington Commanders in 2023 but declined to make a concrete bid.

While Fenway Sports Group isn't divesting itself entirely from its portfolio, it has signaled in recent years it's ready to shift its focus.

FSG sold a much smaller minority stake in Liverpool in 2023, and the Hoffman Family purchased a controlling stake of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins from FSG in 2025. The ownership group also recently abandoned plans to pursue a multi-club model in which Liverpool would've sat at the top.

Fenway Sports Group has been in charge at Anfield since 2010. Liverpool was a distressed asset at the time, owing to mismanagement from the previous owners. The ยฃ300 million price tag paid by FSG now looks like a massive bargain as the Reds reestablished themselves as one of England's most successful clubs.

During the FSG era, Liverpool has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League medal in 2018-19.
