Deion Sanders Wants NCAA to Let Colorado Play Air Force in Spring Game

College football teams typically host a spring scrimmage that is often open to the public, but Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is hoping the NCAA will allow the Buffaloes to face a different team in their spring game.

Sanders said Thursday that he wants to play a spring game against Air Force, which is just about two hours away from Boulder.

"That's something I've been suggesting for quite some time," Sanders told reporters. "And the NCAA felt compelled to allow FCS schools to do what we thought of quite some time ago. So, we're not involved; they won't allow that. But even if we could just practice at the same location would do it justice. We don't have to compete against one another.

"But I wish one day we could have a spring game against one another. It would be wonderful for the state. It would be wonderful for the cities if we did home and away. It would be a great look, I think for college football and Colorado football. I would love that."

Last year, Colorado and Syracuse hoped to play a spring game against one another, but the NCAA rejected it, citing "competitive and recruiting advantages" for those participating in the game.

A spring game against another team would be a unique way to get players game-like experience, which is important for a team like Colorado that features so many transfer additions.

Having two in-state schools like Colorado and Air Force play would also present a fun activity for those within the state during the offseason. For now, Sanders and the Buffs can only hope the NCAA changes its mind about spring games.
