Akron Will Let Season-Ticket Holder Help Design Opening Drive of 2026 CFB Home Opener

College football fans thinking they could call better plays than the head coach and offensive coordinator is a time-honored tradition in the sport, but one lucky Akron fan will have the opportunity to prove it.

Akron announced Tuesday it will hold an "Offensive Coordinator of the Game" promotion this season where one season-ticket holder will win the chance to help head coach Joe Moorhead script plays for the opening drive of the home opener against Robert Morris.

"I'm looking forward to collaborating with the season-ticket holder who wins this contest," Moorhead said. "This will give our fans a behind-the-scenes experience that has never been done before anywhere, so I'm excited to show them how to put together the opening script and see what they can do."

All season-ticket holders are automatically entered into the drawing, and those who refer new ticket buyers will receive additional entries.

Akron will reveal the winner of the promotion that was designed to sell more tickets on Aug. 19.

It should be noted the winner is just going to get the chance to help Moorhead, so there will still be an element of realistic expectations for the opening drive. The Zips aren't going to line up for a fake punt from their own 30-yard line on first down just because that is what a fan wants.

Still, this is quite a notable opportunity for one fan.

Maybe Moorhead will even ask for more suggestions if the fan calls plays that help lead to a touchdown.
