Notre Dame, USC Renew CFB Rivalry, Dates and Locations Revealed for Future Schedules

Notre Dame and USC announced that the two schools will resume their football rivalry on Monday.

While the Fighting Irish and Trojans will not face each other from this year until 2029, they'll play four early-season games from 2030-33 (h/t SI.com's Pat Forde).

The rivalry will be renewed in Los Angeles on Aug. 31, 2030 before shifting to South Bend on Aug. 30, 2031. Meanwhile, the 2032 and 2033 matchups will occur within the first three weeks of each season.

The return of the annual clash between the two schools was possible partly due to Indiana's impending decision to back out of a home-and-home series with Notre Dame scheduled for 2030 and 2031, according toย Pete Sampsonย of The Athletic.

Fighting Irish athletic director Pete Bevacqua was excited for the eventual resumption of the rivalry.

"I think it's great for Notre Dame, great for USC and great for college football," Bevacqua said, via Forde.

"We want to play USC in Notre Dame Stadium and they want to play us in L.A. Memorial Coliseum," he added. "And frankly, that's the way it should be."

USC athletic director Jen Cohen was also looking forward to the series returning.

"USC's historic rivalry with Notre Dame holds a special place in the history of college football, and we are happy to resume a series that means so much to the entire Trojan Family," Cohen said as part of Monday'sย announcement. "It remains important for us to play this game early in the season, as it allows us to schedule competitively with our Big Ten peers and takes into account the health and best interests of our student-athletes and program. We are excited for our fans, and we look forward to more memorable matchups and unforgettable games between the Trojans and the Irish."

The rivalry, which dates back to 1926,ย reportedlyย wasn't renewed following the 2025 season due to scheduling conflicts.

While Notre Dame and USC still have several years before they face each other again, they'll be back on the same field in 2030.
