Johnson Hurts Shoulder in Training, Out for 8 Weeks
Wednesday, August 12
According to Sky Sports, Johnson will miss up to eight weeks with a shoulder injury suffered while training for the match against Norwich City. The midfielder will undergo further testing on Wednesday, but manager Dick Advocaat already knows Johnson will be out for some time, according to Oscar Chamberlain of the Black Cats' official website:
"We have Jordi Gomez and Adam Johnson injured and Danny Graham also has some minor problems. Adam will go to the hospital for a scan tonight and then we will know exactly what is wrong.
It is a serious injury and it will be at least eight weeks.
"
The former Manchester City star took over Lee Cattermole's role as captain when the former left the pitch against Leicester City on Matchday 1 of the Premier League season, a testament to Johnson's importance to the squad. The Black Cats had a nightmare start to the season, and this injury couldn't have come at a worse time.
Steven Fletcher replaced Cattermole against the Foxes, and he's a likely replacement for Johnson while he works his way back to full health.
