DeAndre Hopkins Reportedly Set to Join Ga. Tech Coaching Staff After Patriots Stint in Training Camp

Longtime NFL wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is reportedly entering the next phase of his football career, and he's doing it in the college ranks.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Hopkins is expected to join Georgia Tech as a member of its offensive coaching staff.

The move comes after Hopkins spent some time at the New England Patriots' training camp over the past week in an effort to gauge his interest in eventually getting into coaching.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was Hopkins' head coach with the Tennessee Titans and was previously part of the Houston Texans' coaching staff while Hopkins was with the team.

After lending a helping hand to the Patriots' offensive coaches, Vrabel told Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald on Thursday that Hopkins' time around the team was over, adding, "It was a great experience for everyone."

Per Zenitz, the 34-year-old Hopkins has been in Atlanta this week to visit with the Georgia Tech football team, which led to his appointment to the coaching staff in an official capacity.

Hopkins will coach under offensive coordinator George Godsey, who was Hopkins' OC with the Texans from 2015 to 2016. Godsey was also the Baltimore Ravens' tight ends coach last season when Hopkins was on the team.

In joining Georgia Tech's coaching staff, it likely spells the end of Hopkins' hugely successful and productive NFL career.

Over 13 seasons with the Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and Ravens from 2013 to 2025, Hopkins recorded 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro, D-Hop ranks 17th in NFL history in career catches, 18th in receiving yardage and 19th in receiving touchdowns.

The 2013 first-round pick out of Clemson brings a wealth of playing experience to the table, and he figures to be a great sounding board for the Yellow Jackets' wideouts.

Georgia Tech will kick off its 2026 schedule on Sept. 3 when it hosts the Colorado Buffaloes.
