LeBron James, ESPN Reportedly Nearing Deal on 'Last Dance'-Style Documentary After 76ers Contract

LeBron James and ESPN are close to reaching an agreement on a documentary series following his Philadelphia 76ers tenure similar to Michael Jordan's The Last Dance, according to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.

Per Marchand, talks between both sides are at the "one-yard line" and James is expected to have a camera crew documenting his tenure in Philadelphia.

The Last Dance was previously released in 2020, chronicling the Chicago Bulls dynasty of the 1990s with a particular focus on Jordan's last year with the organization during the 1997-98 season.

As for James, he signed a two-year contract with the 76ers on Friday.

The 22-time All-Star has spent the past eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers, but informed the organization that he planned to play elsewhere during his 2026-27 campaign on June 30.

Several teams were reportedly interested in James as a free agent including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves.

He ultimately joined a 76ers squad that has put together a busy offseason, previously acquiring five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown in a July 1 trade with the Boston Celtics.

James will be turning 42 years old next season, but the four-time MVP might not retire in 2027.

James' agent, Rich Paul, suggested that his client could stay in the NBA for multiple seasons after signing with his new team.

"I think Philadelphia's going to energize him," Paul told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Maybe we get two [seasons]. Maybe we get four."

James remained a key piece of Los Angeles' offense during his 2025-26 campaign, averaging 20.9 points and 7.2 assists to go along with 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from three-point territory.

With James and Brown joining Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in Philadelphia, the 76ers are looking to contend in the Eastern Conference next season and may have a camera crew following them while doing so.
