Latest Warriors Rumors on Draymond Green's Trade Clause in New Contract in NBA Free Agency

Draymond Green's new contract with the Golden State Warriors reportedly will not include a no-trade clause.

After ESPN's Shams Charania reported the veteran agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million deal with the only NBA team he has ever known, ESPN's Anthony Slater reported Wednesday that Green "is waiving implicit no-trade clause and will receive 15% trade kicker."

That mirrors his previous deal and is "designed as if he never declined [his] option."

Notably, Slater pointed out Golden State does not plan on moving Green but still could thanks to the absence of a no-trade clause.

Green is a future Hall of Famer and a Warriors icon, so his future was going to be a focal point this offseason regardless of anyone else.

However, there was a LeBron James element to the situation this offseason considering Charania reported Green's decision to decline his $27.7 million player option in June "gives the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade."

Yet Davis remains with the Washington Wizards and James ultimately chose the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency.

Slater reported the Warriors planned on giving Green a longer deal if James did decide to sign with them but stuck to the one-year contract when the King went elsewhere.

That means Golden State's lineup for the upcoming season will feature familiar faces in Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Green and Kristaps Porziņģis with Steve Kerr still leading the way as head coach on the sidelines.

Ideally for the Warriors, Porziņģis and Butler will remain healthy in 2026-27 after they played 15 and 38 games, respectively, for the team last season. If they do, perhaps the veteran-laden team will have enough overall talent to challenge for a deep run in the Western Conference playoffs.

Green figures to be a major part of that even if the 36-year-old is no longer quite as dominant as he was at his peak when he helped lead the franchise to four championships as one of the best defensive players of his generation.

He still has excellent on-court chemistry with Curry and allows Kerr to mix and match small-ball lineups because of his defensive versatility and overall ability. If he continues maximizing his value in his role, the Warriors likely won't look to trade him even though they can with his new deal.
