New Lakers Rumors on Luka Doncic's Minicamp With Teammates Ahead of 2026 NBA Preseason

Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Dončić is reportedly planning to build some chemistry with his teammates leading up to the start of the 2026-27 NBA season.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Dončić will host the rest of the Lakers roster for a four-day minicamp in his home country of Slovenia next month.

The trip is reportedly expected to include "workouts, golf and some Ljubljana tourism and bonding ahead of training camp."

Last season was Dončić's first full campaign in L.A. following a midseason trade from the Dallas Mavericks during the 2024-25 season.

Dončić excelled, leading the league in scoring with 33.5 points per game, while also registering 8.3 assists, 7.7 rebounds, 4.0 three-pointers made and 1.6 steals per contest en route to a fourth-place finish in NBA MVP voting.

However, a hamstring injury kept Dončić out for the Lakers' entire playoff run, and they were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.

While the Lakers were essentially Dončić's team last season in terms of him being the No. 1 option, the presence of NBA legend LeBron James meant that there were really two faces of the franchise.

James is no longer in the fold, though, as the 41-year-old veteran signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency this offseason.

That means Dončić is now the unquestioned top dog in Los Angeles, while Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler and a host of others will serve as his supporting cast.

James' departure is a big change for the Lakers after he spent the past eight seasons with the franchise. On top of that, several new faces are now in the fold, including Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Matisse Thybulle.

Dončić's minicamp should allow that new group to get on the same page and have some familiarity with each other before training camp and the 2026-27 season begin.
